Why You Should Care About Employee Discount Programs - One Example
Hey, we get it. In the grand scheme of things, a 35% off deal at the local amusement park is nice but not something to go buck wild over.
An employee discount program isn't going to supplant great compensation, quality health insurance, or a generous retirement savings plan. Those are essential.
Most benefits overlook a big gap, though. Namely, people across the US are freaked out about their finances. Debt is growing and the cost of living is getting out of hand. Meanwhile, Americans are taking as much as 25% less than they did 10 years ago.
In other words, the typical American employee is taking it in the pants. Or wallets, to be more accurate.
You can't keep increasing salaries ad infinitum. But you can help on the other side - what employees do with their money and how far they can stretch it. And that's where an employee discount program comes in.
In exchange for being your employee, you give them insider deals at local merchants. Savings they won't be able to obtain anywhere else.

So, that 35% off deal we mentioned at the beginning of this section? That saves an employee $40 on the family outing.
The next day the employee uses a 50% offer at lunch with a coworker. Another $12 that stays in their pocket.
Later in the week the employee dines with their spouse, saving another $20 by simply showing the server a coupon on a smartphone.
That's an extra $72 in the employee's pocket in a week.
And unlike other employee perks, the amount you spend doesn't increase with usage. The more employees use it, the more they save, and you keep paying the same small rate.
That matters to employees. They're extending their paychecks, and if they use the program enough, it'll make them think twice before jumping to another job.
